Kids love their crap food, but the even prefer the Nintendo game consoles.

In the “Young Love” survey by Smarty Pants, brands like Oreos or M&Ms are ranked lower than the 2 latest Nintendo consoles: Wii and DS. Other gadget brands also appear in this survey but lower in the list.

In this report, Smarty Pants surveyed 4 700 kids and their parents about more than 260 brands in about 20 product categories.

Kids represent a market of more than 500 millions dollars each year, and their parents are very influenced by their prescriptions. So, it’s very important for these brands to be loved by the kids and not anly by the parents.

From Crayola to iPod, kids’ most loved brands are familiar, iconic brands that delight kids and parents with variety, value, family-friendly content, and simple pleasures. Interestingly, the top brands are not traditional ‘for kids only’ brands; in fact, many are not marketed directly to kids.

The kids prefered brands are the one which are offering them quality times spend with their family, content appropriate for their age, parent-approved indulgence, variety and choice, “cool” accessibility, and chatter-worthy advertising.
